Trash Talk, Lane Closures & Pickleball
Stay ahead of the city fees, lane squeezes, and where to show your support.

You might notice the newsletter looks a bit different. A lot of events in the Valley have such great artwork on their flyers, I want to include more of those to make the newsletter a bit more visually appealing. I’m also going to work on keeping the articles in the news section a bit shorter, I feel like I can get a bit… wordy. I hope you like the changes. As always, just hit reply if you have any feedback!
Did You Know - Though it was already inhabited by the native Tongva Tribe, September 4 marks the traditional anniversary of the founding of the city of Los Angeles in1781 - El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles (The Town of the Queen of the Angels).

☺️New Glendale Leisure Guide Published
The Glendale Leisure Guide is a comprehensive resource for things to do in and around Glendale. Whether it’s the kids, you and your friends, or just you, you’ll find plenty of things to do, things to see, and ways to meet new people no matter what age you are. This is a must read if you live on the East side of the Valley.
🗑️LA Says “Pay Up” for Trash Pickup
Starting Jan. 1, 2026, LA trash hauling fees will jump—big time. Single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes will all pay the same $59.53 per unit/month, up from as low as $24.33. Extra bins? Those fees are going up too. City Hall says it’s to cover a $1B budget gap. Translation: trash ain’t cheap.
🚌Burbank Preps for Bus Rapid Transit
Metro kicks off pre-construction work Sept. 8–12, 2025 in Burbank for the North Hollywood–Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit Project. Expect weekday lane reductions from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at these hotspots:
Olive Ave. (Kenwood → SR-134, plus Lima → Alameda)
Hollywood Way (right turn onto Olive, by Warner Bros.)
Alameda Ave. (Lincoln → Buena Vista, plus Frederic → Buena Vista)
Buena Vista St. (at Alameda, westbound turn lane)
Crews will dig up roads (“potholing” for utilities), so count on noise, detours, and temporary parking restrictions. Lanes reopen nightly, but if you’re driving—maybe just take the bus that’s causing all this.
🎾Paddles 4 A Purpose – Sept. 7
Councilmembers Konstantine Anthony and Christopher Rizzotti are hosting Paddles 4 A Purpose at the Burbank Tennis Center on Sept. 7. Warm-up kicks off at 8 a.m., play at 9 a.m.
Even if you missed the Aug. 31 sign-up deadline, you can still swing by to cheer on the players. Proceeds benefit Bridging Community Resources, which supports residents with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Good cause, good competition, good excuse to shout “Dink!” from the sidelines.
🎭 Scary Good Volunteer Gigs in Burbank
Want to help put together one of Burbank’s biggest fall events? The city is looking for Scene Leaders—the masterminds behind the spooky sets. You’ll design a section of the event, decorate it with props, and lead a crew to bring it all to life. Basically, it’s your chance to be a set designer, director, and boss all rolled into one. (Capes optional, but encouraged.)
Not ready for that level of responsibility? Don’t worry, they’ve got openings for just about everything:
Set Designers
Makeup Artists
Actors/Scarers (perfect for anyone with an evil laugh)
Prop Makers
Wardrobe Assistants
Tech Crew
General Support
Non-Scare Helpers (aka “the nice ones”)
Interested? Reach out to [email protected] or call 818-238-5440.
