Krypto’s Coming to Burbank + 50% Off Pet Adoptions
And anyone want to split a box of roasted Hatch Chiles with me?

Schools back in session today! Boy, Summer just flew by. If you’re a parent of LAUSD kid(s), I hope this school year is as fun and productive as it can be. If you don’t have kids or they’re beyond school years, head out to work a little earlier than usual to account for all the parents taking their kids to school.
Did You Know - There are 252 LAUSD schools in the San Fernando Valley, with over 140,000 students. That’s more people than live in Simi Valley!
Burned out by the news? There’s a better way.
Outrage headlines. Never-ending feeds. Everyone shouting, no one listening.
Keeping up with political news today can feel more like emotional labor than staying informed. That’s why Tangle exists.
Tangle is an independent, nonpartisan newsletter that covers one major political story each day. It breaks down the facts, shows how the left, right, and center are talking about it, and adds clear, honest analysis — without the spin, hysteria, or bias.
No sides to pick. Just clear, honest analysis from an independent source — all in under 10 minutes a day.
More than 400,000 readers — no matter their politics — trust Tangle to get the full picture and stay informed without getting burnt out.
If you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed by the news — but still want to understand what’s really happening — give Tangle a try.

🎨 Double the Art, Double the Inspiration at CSUN
Cal State Northridge is serving up two thought-provoking exhibitions this fall — and you can catch them both at a single reception night.
The Journey is the Destination: Recording Los Angeles (Main Gallery, Aug 25 – Nov 6)
This multi-artist showcase captures overlooked corners of Los Angeles through photography, mixed media, sculpture, and installations. The works challenge traditional, state-driven mapping and instead give the power of storytelling to the people who live in these communities. Bonus: the Sanborn Atlas Collection and University Library Map Collection will display related maps and documents, with an Open House that same evening.
The Warmth of the Sun: A Recent Survey of Tierra del Sol Artists (West Gallery, Aug 25 – Oct 15)
From hot rods to bus maps, florals to fast food, Tierra del Sol artists bring Greater L.A. to life with vivid, poetic precision. Their works reveal the beautiful mash-up of nature, culture, and urban energy that defines the region.
📅 Save the Date
Thursday, September 11
5:00 – 7:30 PM
Enjoy both exhibition receptions and the Sanborn Atlas Collection Open House. As always, CSUN Art Galleries’ exhibitions and programs are free.

Boil Water Notice Lifted for Granada Hills & Porter Ranch
The City of Los Angeles has lifted the Boil Water Notice for Granada Hills and Porter Ranch after confirming water safety with the California Division of Drinking Water. Residents can now drink and use tap water normally. LADWP recommends flushing household pipes before use; affected customers will receive a $20 bill credit to offset water costs.
Quick Flushing Guide:
Prep: Remove faucet aerators/screens; set filters & softeners to bypass.
Outside faucets: Run 5 min or until clear.
Cold water: Starting with the faucet closest to the water line, run fully open for 5 min; shut off in reverse order.
Hot water: Drain tank, refill, then repeat above process for hot faucets.
Toilets: Flush once.
Ice makers: Discard ice, make & toss 3 batches, disinfect bin.
Appliances: Run empty dishwasher & washer on rinse; flush fridge dispenser 5 min.
Clean aerators/screens: Soak 5 min in bleach solution (1 cup bleach to 4 cups water), rinse, reattach.
Filters: Replace all, reset devices from bypass; follow manuals for RO units and regenerate softeners.

🐶 Burbank’s First Dog Park Nears Final Approval
After decades of requests, Burbank’s first dog park — the Dick Clark Dog Park — is in the final review phase with LADWP. Located at Riverside Dr. and Bob Hope Dr., the park will feature a statue of Krypto, Superman’s canine sidekick, joining other DC hero statues across the city.
Once approved, the park will offer:
Separate large/small dog areas with agility equipment
70 trees, shaded seating, and a central plaza
Dog-friendly “park blend” surface for digging without mess
Drinking stations, ADA-accessible parking, and picnic spots
The $2.4M project is fully funded through LADWP compensation, grants, and a $150K Dick Clark Foundation sponsorship — no city general funds required. Construction could begin in early 2026 and take 3–4 months.
Future plans include a commemorative paver program for pet and family tributes.

🌶️ Who’s Up For Some Roasted Hatch Chiles? Just Me?
Anyone want to split a box of roasted hatch chiles with me? The Albertson’s in Reseda is roasting 25 pound boxes for $39.99 each. I tried roasted Hatch's for the first time last year and while I kinda fell in love with them, I don’t think we have room for 25 pounds of them in our freezer! I live right down the street from this Albertsons location and would be happy to host a little peeling party in my front yard where we could peel the skins and bag them up. Just hit reply on this email and let me know!
